I also manned up and went into central Leeds on my own one day for an explore. The British have this great thing figured out called 'pedestrian friendly', it's awesome and great the US sucks at it. I walked through a very posh and beautiful place called the Victorian Quarter. Right down the road from that is the Leeds Public Market, which is considered the opposite of posh but in my opinion equally beautiful. And I felt at home there, go figure on how posh I am. I wandered around there for hours and ended up finding a sweet deal; two jumpers for £5. I browsed the selection for a bit and chatted with the squat fellow selling them. When I made my choice he folded them up and then hugged them to his chest and said "four pounds for you if you include a phone number". Call me a party pooper but I paid five pounds, though he did try. When I told my mother this story she scolded me for not going for the deal. Thank ma, love ya!
On my way out of the market, I noticed a little staircase almost tucked into the wall. I looked over my shoulder and then just went up. I walked up and around and came across a conference room, the door was ajar so I walked through and found myself on a balcony that ran around the entire perimeter of the building, above all the stalls and shops. I walked slow and took pictures as I went. I was about to take a certain photo of a fruit stand from above when in the top part of the frame I saw two policemen on the balcony across from me and coming around fast. Capped the camera, and just started walking real quick till I got back to the stairs. Hurried down, got outside, put on my coat and took off my scarf and just booked it. I'm an American and Americans know how to flee from law enforcement! Woo! But actually, the pictures were well worth it.
